In my lifetime, America organised a remarkable amount of human slaughter. Features include Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq again, Syria, and now Ukraine. Body count: millions too many. The hideous reality is something to which the public is rarely exposed. I was too young to comprehend the lies of Vietnam, but the vile sequence beginning with "Desert Storm" has demonstrated that America -and her yapping puppy-dog allies- never fails to amplify whatever mass-media fairy-tale will help milk the last billion out of the latest massacre of choice.
Of course, when we speak of "American" wars, we are talking about financial exercises carried out by the military/industrial complex; ordinary U.S. citizens could care less. In war, as in finance, the elite and the minnows are proles apart. After the Vietnam debacle, the draft was abandoned, as the public became all too aware of what their sons could expect when press-ganged into a Yankee shooting war.
Now, however, another kind of press-gang underwrites the butchery: the garbage-mongers pontificating in the (virtually irrelevant) legacy newspapers, the shiny overdressed TV script-readers, and their army of poisonous online trolls. Every war requires an evil villain; every day another batch of hot lies; every propaganda news-cycle generates another billion for the Washington war-machine. But you can invariably tell the jig is up -as it is now for Ukraine- when the headlines fall down under their own weight.
The latest volley of artillery flops from the windbag warriors of Fleet Street include the following absolute duds:
"International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for
Vladimir Putin for war crimes because of his alleged involvement in the
abduction of children from Ukraine."
Well gee whizz, has anybody noticed that Russia isn't a member of the ICC's club of corruption? This "announcement" is on par with "local vicar says Russians are nasty sorts". Or perhaps me, issuing a warrant for the arrest of Tony Blair. What next -"Putin is a Vampire, reveals Professor Van Helsing!"?
But there are also "expert" voices in the chorus; step forward the one and only Robert Clark (who?) to drop this flatulent bombast from his lofty seat in the grandad grandstand at the Daily Telegraph...
Leading with the compulsory P-word (cos it's nobody's war but Vlad's) we learn that (a) Robert foresees a "terrifying escalation" and (b) this week's ad hominem adjective is "erratic" (a bit weak Robert, could try harder) not to mention (c) the Russian leader is, allegedly, "in a corner". So what, exactly, is terrifying today's expert?
It turns out that escalation is Rob's big fear. In which case he might want to blame his nightmares on the NATO psycho-profiteers who have flung over $500 billion into the fray between them -not exactly defusing the situation, what? But no -a thousand times no- the escalation that has Rob pant-wetting is that Russia has arranged to purchase ammunition and other military supplies from -hold your breath- China.
The rest of Rob's expert meanderings consists of a long OMG how crazy is that? Blowing up the Nordstream pipeline -the greatest single environmental catastrophe in terms of carbon pollution in world history-was nothing, it appears, to our Rob. The cartoonish, bank-breaking excesses of cash and weaponry supplied to Zelensky's fantsy-war by America, Germany, Poland, France and Britain are -in Rob's sweet head- not escalation, but...? He does not tell us.
But when Vlad Superbad buys up some hot gear from Bejing -it's a "terrible miscalculation". I confess I almost choked on my beer laughing. Actually Rob, the Telegraph has made a terrible miscalculation in paying a dolt like you to spew such kindergarten commentary. Ukraine, it appears, can summon the entire military arsenal of the Western world to its side, but when Russia finds an ally -that's escalation?
I don't think Clark understands the meaning of the word, but what else would you expect from a man whose byline confesses:
Robert Clark is the Director of the Defence and Security Unit at Civitas. Prior to this he served in the British military. [You can see what Civitas (a so-called "think tank") does HERE and I suggest you check them out] Translation: Robert Clark is an ex-squaddie who will write any old tripe Civitas asks for, on behalf the government which pays it to supply BS columns that push the Uniparty Agenda in newspapers. The Civitas office address (First Floor, 55 Tufton street, Westminster) tells you all you need to know.
A little background is necessary to explain why contrived bilge like this is being pumped out now. Within the last week, the Russian strategy of assuming a heavily-defended position from which to bombard the remaining Ukranian forces has degraded Zelensky's exhausted, third-tier conscripts to the brink of total collapse. Russia's high-tech onslaught is simply unstoppable, and the scale of the engagement is far beyond Ukraine's capacity to withstand. No amount of hastily-imported ammunition or clapped-out German tanks will save the Donbass region from falling into/returning to Russia's control. Ammo is useless if no-one is left to do the shooting; tanks are lumps of dead metal when they run out of spares. There are neither men nor spares available any more. At this point, the conflict is effectively over.
Dreadful reports have emerged from Odessa that teenage boys and male pensioners are bring dragged out of cafes and bars at gunpoint, herded into military trucks and ferried to training camps. From these, after 48 hours light-arms training, they are being forced into the front-line of the Ukrainian army. The current survival rate for new combatants arriving on the Ukrainian front is estimated -by Colonel Douglas McGregor no less- to be approximately 4 hours. Flag-wavers in the Home Counties may wish to reflect that this level of enforced butchery is what their half-witted "support" for Zelensky's vanity war has helped to bring about.
NATO'S proxy war is falling to pieces. Both the British and American governments are busy preparing for the musical-chairs which will follow their upcoming pretend-elections. Another batch of puppets are being tutored for their turn in the sun. Behind closed doors, everyone agrees Ukraine is a lost cause but after a year of the glorious, gory money-go-round, none will admit it's time to get off the carousel.
So, instead of diplomacy -which could have saved over 250,000 lives and allowed Ukranians to live in peace- the entire region has been devastated, Europe's domestic economies are slipping into recession, Germany and the UK are effectively bankrupt and a third of the Ukrainian population are scattered to the wind on the refugee trail.
Expect more and more vulgarities and insults to be hurled at Putin as this grisly farce grinds to a halt in the boot-sucking mudbaths of the East. It's a well-trodden path for the media-muckrakers. Russia would still -even now- prefer a negotiated settlement, but the chickenhawks of NATO want yet more blood on the ground. Negotiation? The WW2 poster which illustrates this post (see above) spells out the message Putin is meant to hear:
When he stands up as pleading, in wavering man-brute disguise
When he veils the hate and cunning of his little swinish eyes
When he shows as seeking quarter, with paws in hands like prayer
That is the time of Peril -the Time of The Truce of the Bear!
When this horrorshow finally ends, let's ask all the Robert Clarks to explain who won.

The previous commentator beat me to it. The Volkssturm is a perfect description of Zelensky’s deadbeat army. And how appropriate it is that these present day Nazi tyrants are following in the footsteps of the original ones.
Volkssturm. Goebbels. Velensky.
ReplyDeleteSorry. Zelensky, or whatever the little no-mark is called.
