LONDON DOES NOT FEEL ENGLISH

About a million years ago -or maybe around 2016-
when humour was still allowed, an old 'political' quip was still doing the rounds. It went : Democracy is two wolves and a sheep discussing who's for dinner.

I was reminded of this cliche when a friend invited me to watch a recent scene from the ITV morning show, Good Morning Britain. The item in question was a 'discussion' between three TV presenters and three 'Londoners' regarding a tweet from the tax-exile comedian John Cleese.

"London," Cleese had tweeted," no longer feels like an English city."

The premise of the ensuing 'discussion' was the question - is this a racist statement?
Before addressing the truly comic nature of ITV's interpretation of the word 'discussion', here are two relevant facts.

 (a) white people are now officially a minority in London.
 (b) London has been calculatedly transformed into a city willing to publicly celebrate any culture at all with one exception:  English culture.

As neither of these facts are remotely in dispute, Cleese was tweeting the obvious. However, in the bizarro universe of modern media, this self-evident remark was used as a jumping-off point for a six-person multi-culti pile-on about 'racism'. Although Cleese himself had made no reference whatsoever to anyone's race.

Incidentally, if you too think  John Cleese's observation really does carry racist undertones, just how 'inclusive' are your television cheerleaders? The Good Morning Britain 'panel' which  addressed this 'controversial' statement consisted of :three mixed-race presenters, a black woman, a Russian immigrant and a full-dress Muslim. Yes, that's right. Six conspicuously non-indigenous people in London complaining about a white ex-Londoner who suggested his culture is under-represented in London.

Talk about pots and kettles dancing in the dark. Needless to say, not one of these half-dozen righteous whingers saw the slightest irony in the complete absence of any white English voice from their 'discussion'. Would six white folk discussing 'the trouble with black people' on Zimbabwe TV be cool with ITV's progressive geniuses?

I will suggest then, that when the tired old joke about democracy quoted above has breathed its last we can replace it with a modern joke -the new kind- along the lines of :

Diversity is six people of colour earning a great living in London telling a white Englishman he's full of shit.

Like all modern jokes, of course, it's not the least bit funny at all.
