Anyone with a third of a brain understands that politics is an endlessly evolving argument about the purpose of government and its relationship with the governed. There are 100 ways to interpret this relationship but they all centre on_________
As a freelance musician I'd missed seeing one particular aspect of just how much the UK has changed, but my partner inadvertantly alerted me to this eight years ago, when she moved back to London after many years living abroad.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 1970's and 80's she had been used to being able to quickly get a job in a service industry just by answering an advert in a newsagent's window or a small-ad in a local paper.
She was astonished (and extremely frustrated) to discover that the prospective employee no longer has the freedom to do this, and that the only way you can obtain such a job now is via a 'Job Centre', with the whole process controlled and overseen by bossy government apparatchiks.
A method of keeping permanent tabs on all UK citizens of the type that London Mayor Sadiq Khan demonises as 'Individuals' every time he imposes another Collectivist raft of restrictions on supine Londoners.
